Welcome to Boston!

There’s something special about playing tourist in your own city, and after years of calling Boston home, we finally decided to do just that. Instead of packing our bags for a far-off getaway, we planned a dog-friendly weekend right here in our own backyard. Think historic streets, waterfront walks, cozy patios, and plenty of tail wags along the way.

Boston

From strolling the iconic Freedom Trail to soaking up harbor views, we set out to rediscover Boston through fresh eyes (and at a slightly slower, sniff-everything pace). We searched for the best pet-friendly patios, scenic green spaces, and local spots that welcome four-legged guests just as warmly as their humans.

Whether you’re visiting Boston with your pup or you’re a local looking to plan the ultimate staycation, this weekend itinerary proves you don’t have to leave the city to feel like you’ve escaped. Here’s how we spent a memorable, dog-friendly weekend in Boston, leash in hand and camera ready.

Where to Stay

Boston has no shortage of beautiful and unique places to stay. Whether you're looking to view the city or the harbor their is a place for you. We were lucky enough to partner with our friends at they Hyatt Centric Boston - Faneuil Hall! Located on Devonshire Street and just steps from the Old State House, Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market and more. It's centrally located to some of Boston's most historic sites.

The location is great but the amenities are even better. From the moment we arrived Leia was fully welcomed not just tolerated. Treats at the front desk upon check-in and a sweet surprise waiting when we found our room. She was spoiled with more treats, the most plush dog bed, and bowls for her food and water. It's so important to me that when I travel with Leia she is treated like a guest as well and the Hyatt Centric knocked it out of the park!

In addition to all the wonderful dog-friendly amenities and the view from our room the hotel offers valet parking (for a fee), a morning coffee bar with breakfast, and is connected to Jules on Devonshire that has $1 oysters daily and a delicious espresso martini!

Where to Eat and Drink

Boston doesn't get nearly enough credit for the food and drink scene. When the weather starts to warm and patios begin to open again we know our favorite time of year is upon us!

Here are a few of our favorite dog-friendly patios:

Note - many of the restaurants have seasonal patios, always check their website or social media for up-to-date policies

Where to Explore (Yes, it's all dog-friendly!)

Boston, in my opinion, is one of the most walkable cities in the US! Which means taking our furry best friend is a whole lot easier (weather permitting). With endless green space, walking tours and beer gardens it really is a one of a kind experience for dog-friendly travelers.

Here are some of our favorite spots:

  • Walk the historic Freedom Trail

  • Book a ticket for the Dog Days of Summer cruise with Mass Bay Lines - Enjoy a different view of the Boston Harbor. My personal favorite view of the city!

  • Paddle along the Charles River in a Canoe or Kayak with Paddle Boston

  • Walk & Shop on Newbury Street and end your walk at the Boston Public Garden

  • Enjoy local brews at some of our favorite beer gardens

  • Picnic at Castle Island, grab lunch at Sullivan's and find a sunny spot to enjoy the afternoon

  • Stop by any Polkadog location and pick up some local treats for your pup (Leia's favorite is their Cod Skins) use code: LEIA for 10% off

dog-friendly boston

Our dog-friendly staycation reminded us why we love calling Boston home. From breezy harbor walks to lazy afternoons on pet-friendly patios, the city feels just as welcoming to four-legged explorers as it does to their humans. Slowing down to wander familiar streets, whether along the waterfront or through historic neighborhoods, gave us a fresh appreciation for the charm that’s always been right outside our door.

If you’ve been waiting for the “right time” to plan a getaway, consider this your sign to visit Boston. Book that pet-friendly hotel, map out a few must-see spots, and experience your own city through curious eyes and a wagging tail. Sometimes the best adventures aren’t the ones that take you far away — they’re the ones that help you fall in love with home all over again.
